Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has decided to procure Jetpatcher machines to fill potholes in the city. The civic body has decided to purchase five machines worth Rs 5 crore (each machine Rs one crore).

Speaking to The Hans India, GHMC Commissioner B Janardhan Reddy said conventional methods take from 45 minutes to six hours to fill the potholes, where as new machines can fix hundreds of potholes every week. He said that the machines are fully automatic and can be used even during rain.

"Right from cleaning the pothole to adding the final layer, the machine makes all the work and the advanced technology used in the machinecan dry up the pothole in just three minutes", he said.

Janardhan Reddy said that Jetpatcher has a blower which cleans the potholes. Layer of tar is added at high speed followed by a cold mix and a final layer of tar to level the pothole."The machine takes 10 minutes to fill a pothole which will help us repair long stretches in quick time and save us lot of manpower."

He said the machines are self-contained and carry all the necessary equipment and materials to repair spots. A team of two drivers and an operator can handle one machine. Each machine will cost about Rs 1 crore and will be deployed in all five zones at the earliest.

Commenting on clearing bottle necks on city nalas, Janardhan Reddy made it clear that the GHMC will remove illegal constructions on nalas and the government has allocated Rs 230 crore for the same.
