Hyderabad: The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) has locked horns with Karnataka RTA authorities. The TSRTC has lodged a strong protest saying that the RTA officials have been giving troubles to the buses from Telangana and seizing the buses and levying fines which has also been causing problems for the passengers.

According to officials here, Karnataka RTA had recently seized the Bengaluru-bound TSRTC buses at Devanahalli check post on two occasions within the duration of one month.

The highhandedness of the Karnataka officials resulted in inconvenience to the passengers as they were made to get down the bus and wait on the road for more than an hour. The authorities first seized a super luxury bus and then a Garuda Plus bus and filed cases against the corporation alleging that they were carrying excess luggage.

Any public transport bus has luggage facility and in its efforts to generate revenues other than the ticketing, the Corporation has started giving some space in the bus to a private parcel service.

As per the lease, the parcel service is authorised to take luggage and there were no issues until recent times. But, the Karnataka RTA authorities started seizing the buses on Bengaluru route stating that cargo services cannot be allowed on Public Transport System.

Sources said that the Karnataka authorities were having no issues with the other public transport buses including the buses from Andhra Pradesh. But the buses from Telangana were purposely targeted. With the authorities seizing the buses, the RTC staff alerted the TSRTC management, who asked them to immediately get the buses released from the court by paying the penal amount.

The officials paid the required fee and got them released to avoid further embarrassment, sources added. Sources further said that one Karnataka RTA official at Devanahalli had some issues with the parcel service provider aligned with the TSRTC and hence was targeting them.

When asked, the TSRTC MD G V Ramana Rao said that the management had informed to the KSRTC officials and asked them to intervene and resolve the issue. “Since there is no response from the other side, we are now talking to senior officials in the Transport Department here, who in turn will talk to the Karnataka RTA for resolving the issue,” he added.
