Hyderabad: The merger of Hyderabad State with the Indian Union in 1948, was celebrated on Sunday, with the unfurling of the national flag at the offices of various political parties. The Telangana Rashtra Samithi, the Telangana Congress and TDP celebrated the merger day, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) celebrated it as ``Liberation day”.

It was on this day in 1948 that the erstwhile Hyderabad State merged with the Indian Union following the Indian military operation against the Nizam’s Army.

Expressing concern over the increase in attacks on Dalits, tribals, BCs, weaker sections and minorities, the TPCC president N Uttam Kumar Reddy said that Telangana is presently ruled by a new "Razakar" regime which is crushing the people's voice with force.

Speaking after hosting national flag at Gandhi Bhavan on the occasion of Hyderabad Liberation Day on Sunday, he said it was the Congress party which brought Independence for country and it was Congress which merged Hyderabad with Indian Union.
Again, it was Congress which granted statehood for Telangana. He said Chief Minister, before coming to power, played politics demanding official celebration of Hyderabad Liberation Day; but he is now refusing to do so. Uttam said KCR should explain what stops him from not celebrating the occasion at official level.

The TPCC Chief said there was a need to launch another struggle to free Telangana from the rule of 'new Razakars'. He appealed to the people to unitedly fight against the dictatorial and arrogant regime of KCR.

Earlier, Uttam Kumar Reddy and other Congress leaders paid floral tributes to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. He also participated in the Hyderabad Liberation Day celebrations held near Ashoka Pillar in Koti and paid tributes to the martyrs.

Home Minister N Narasimha Reddy unfurled the tricolour at the TRS headquarters in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister Mahmood Ali and other leaders. Finding fault with the Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh attending the Nizamabad meeting, Naini alleged that the BJP was dividing people on the issue. He advised the BJP party to desist from communal
politics.

At the BJP State office, party’s State president K Laxman hoisted the tri-colour where he targeted the TRS government for going back on its promise to officially celebrate the day.

Telangana TDP leaders garlanded the portraits of Mahatma Gandhi, Dr B R Ambedkar and NTR before unfurling national flag by State party president L Ramana. Speaking on the occasion, Ramana flayed the Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao for not celebrating the day as an official event.

Ramana alleged that KCR has forgotten his promise made to the people before coming to power, who had said that September 17 would be celebrated officially if TRS comes to power.
