Hyderabad: The Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) meeting with Telangana and Andhra Pradesh officials, regarding the issue of tampered telemetry system at Pothireddypadu Head Regulator, concluded without any action against the agency involved in violation of protocol. While, the Telangana government was not happy by KRMB’s decision, the board assured that such violations would not recur in the future.

Following a complaint lodged by the Telangana government, that Andhra Pradesh government in collusion with the private agency Mechactronics Systems Private Limited tampered telemetry machines installed at Pothireddypadu Head Regulator, the board called for an emergency meeting with all stakeholders in Hyderabad.

Telangana Engineer-in-Chief C Muralidhar submitted evidences before the board that the telemetry equipment was tampered and demanded that strict action be taken against the agency responsible for supporting the Andhra Pradesh government, which utilised excess water even before the allocations were made by the KRMB.

The Telangana officials expressed strong displeasure over KRMB for not taking any action against the agency. The officials brought to the notice of the board that the agency under reported the discharge of water from the Pothireddypadu. The tampered reports said that the Andhra Pradesh had drawn only 10,000 cusecs as against 12,026 cusecs of water.

Officials said the Telangana government proved the tampering of machines with evidences to the board but, the latter did not take any action. The KRMB assured that it would take measures to see that such violations were not repeated.

The board said that it would convene a meeting with the Telangana and Andhra Pradesh governments in the first week of October to discuss the pending water sharing issues.
