Hyderabad: Following heavy and incessant rains across the city for over a week now, many localities are facing the civic problems. In addition, water logged streets and overflowing drains are posing severe health hazards.

Many areas have witnessed rise in the cases of viral fever and other allergic diseases during the past week. This has been witnessed with the rise of visitors to government and private hospitals for similar kind of complaints.

Civic authorities failed to clear the debris, garbage and silt being accumulated in the streets especially in the interior areas. Though some areas have been visited and attended by the men and machinery.

Slum areas are on the receiving end followed by the heavy rain and accumulation of garbage, domestic waste and waste flooded due to rain water. People in the Mangalhat have complained that only one or two vehicles were sent for the rescue and de-silting the overflowing drains.

The Jhirra Road is witness to the official apathy and testimony to the dereliction by the GHMC and HMWS&SB staff. The entire stretch from Asif Nagar to Tappa Chabutra is battered with rains and heaps of garbage not being attended.

Chandan Kumar from Jhirra said that this area has been under neglect during normal days too and when it rains, that becomes messy. Gudimalkapur of Mehdipatnam, the situation is similar and silt is ruling the roost. Suresh Pandit of Gudimalkapur said that garbage and silt were not new issues. Rains have doubled up the woes in area.

Following the reports of surge in the viral fever and other allergies in different parts of city, Hyderabad DMHO Dr Padmaja visited few places in order to take notice of the hygiene and cleanliness in the slum areas.

She visited slum areas in Kachiguda and instructed the Health Department officials to streamline the distribution of medicines to the pregnant women. She enquired about the implementation of other health schemes in slum areas.

Rainfall on Sunday Continuing its tirade, rain has lashed the city on Sunday inundating many areas in the city. Uppal Bandlaguda recorded 65 mm, the highest on the day, Saroornagar 64mm, LB Nagar-38mm, Charminar-35mm, Amberpet-28mm and so on.

As a result of continuous rains from morning on Sunday, many parts of city have witnessed traffic jams and other issues. The traffic congestion was reported on the Metro Rail construction routes.

Traffic police and GHMC staff were seen trying hard to streamline the vehicle movement and clearing the water logging areas. Many parts of city witnessed fluctuations in power supply.
