Hyderabad: The State unit of the BJP expressed fears whether the Kakatiya Mega Textile Park (KMTP) would meet the fate of the Hyderabad Hi-Tech Weaving Park (HHWP).Addressing the media here on Monday, State BJP official spokesperson K Krishna Saagar Rao said, “The proposed KMTP does not have necessary permissions or approvals.

Besides, it neither figured in the list of Mega Textile Parks (MTP) in the country, nor, has any Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) been formed to manage the proposed park,” he added.

He said his party welcomed the intentions of the Chief Minister that the park would create jobs and help weavers of the State. However, the tall claims made by K Chandrashekar Rao while laying foundation stone for the KMTP were not matching with the facts. This made the party doubt whether the KMTP was another case of dream selling by the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) chief, he said.

He said earlier the Congress government had established WHWP in Mahbubnagar district. The 1000-acres project was aimed to create thousands of jobs in the district, known for mass migration of people to other places in search of livelihoods.

But, the State government remained silent on the same. And, recently, the Union Textile Ministry had scrapped 12 approved MTPs in the country and the WHWP is one among those, he said adding that a government which could not save and handle a 1000-acre WHWP was now making tall claims to make the proposed KMTP a hub of national and international repute.

Krishna Saagar Rao criticised the government for forcefully acquiring 1,500 acres from the farmers in the name of KMPT. “It is in a hurry to distribute the lands to big industrialists when the farmers are yet to be paid compensation,” he said.

He demanded that the government clarify whether the project was under SITP, if necessary sanctions obtained, why the Union Minister for Textiles Smriti Irani was not invited for the laying of foundation stone, the name of the SPV, the share of the State government, the timeline to complete the project, job creation and the investment grounding.
