Bhadrachalam: The temple town Bhadrachalam, which is also called Ayodhya of South India by devotees of Lord Rama, has been facing neglect. The temple town has seen no development in the past four years, according to local people.

Prior to the bifurcation of the united Andhra Pradesh, both Telangana and residuary State of AP had lobbied for merger of Bhadrachalam with their respective States. The temple town, however, remained with the Telangana State. The people in Bhadrachalam and devotees of Lord Rama had pinned high hopes on the TRS government for the development of the town.

But the present regime seemed have disappointed the people of temple town. The government has yet to release funds for the development of the town. After the formation of Telangana State, the Chief Minister had announced that the government would release Rs 100 crore for the development of Lord Rama temple.

The government had also announced in the State Assembly that allotment of funds for the development of Bhadrachalam had been made. The government had requested Seer Jeeyar Swamy and sculptor Anand Sai to draw up plans for the development of the temple.

The sub-collector Bhadrachalam Bhavinesh Mishra, when contacted, said he had no knowledge about the government plans. Expressing his anger over the state of affair in the temple town, CP-I (M) leader and Bhadrachalam MLA Sunnam Rajaiah said, “in the past four years the TRS government had not launched a single development work in the temple town.

The Chief Minister had promised funds for the developing the temple but failed to release funds yet.” The government did not response despite the issued was raised on the floor of the Assembly, he said.

Echoing the similar view, BJP leader B Shanker Reddy said the temple town was being neglected by the TRS government. Senior leader congress T V Ramana demanded that the government release funds immediately for the development of the town.
