Peddapalli: District Collector Devasena directed the officials to take necessary steps to set up nursery in each and every village in the district. She held a review meeting with the officials concerned about various issues like Haritha Haram targets, setting up of nurseries etc, at the Collectorate meeting hall here on Wednesday.

She told the officials to reach the targets of Haritha Haram of the district and to give utmost importance to protect the saplings planted in the district under the programme. Stating that 69.56 lakh saplings have been planted till date out of the targeted 1.10 crore plants in the district, she directed the officials to complete the target in the next 10 days.

Directing the mandal parishad development officials to complete the targets in their mandals, she enquired about the progress of the Haritha Haram in each mandal. She further told them to geotag each sapling that was planted and to arrange tree guard, to water the plants regularly.

The government has decided to take up the Haritha Haram programme on war footing across the State from next year and preparing plan of action with the target of planting 100 crores saplings every year. As part of this, the government is preparing to set up nurseries in every village to grow more saplings, she explained.

The Collector directed to set up 75 per cent nurseries under village and forest departments and to get saplings ready. The officials were told to set up 234 nurseries - 182 nurseries in rural areas and 52 in urban areas – in Peddapalli district.

The Collector ordered the officials to identify suitable areas to develop nurseries in the district, to upload the nurseries’ details online, to procure polythene covers and plants for the plantation drive, to make arrangements for water supply and to prepare proposals for these arrangements.

Ramagundam Municipal Commissioner Srinivas, District Forest Officer Raviprasad, Abkari department Superintendent J Ravi Kumar, District Education Officer Venkateswar Rao, District Animal Husbandry Officer Rajanna, District Fisheries Officer Mallesham, District Horticulture Officer Jyothi, MPDOs, EE SRSP Madhusudhan Rao and other officials attended the review meeting.
