Peddamul: Basic facilities and safety at Government BC hostel have been thrown to the wind. The students have been shivering without proper blankets. Due to lack of blankets, only 40 students out of 60, sleep at hostel during night. Some are using the blankets that they brought from their homes. Apart from warden, there should be three employees in the hostel to take care of the students, but only two are performing duties.
The students complain that the watchman rarely comes to the hostel. Parents are also worrying about their wards’ security. One of the employees said that warden Sangameshwar work as in-charge at another hostel. District BC Welfare Officer Pushpalatha said that they distributed blankets to the students and they were not aware of students bringing blankets from their houses. She said that there were complaints against the watchman, and a memo will soon be issued after proper enquiry.
