Secunderabad: The Congress party appears to have done careful arithmetic in choosing Kasani Gnaneshwar Mudiraj as the People’s Front (PF) nominee to win the Secunderabad seat. He bagged nomination despite a stiff competition from two strong contenders – former Mayor Banda Karthika Reddy and ex-minister Marri Sashidhar Reddy, who represented the Sanathnagar constituency in 1992 (by-election), 1994, 2004 and 2009.

The PF chose Gnaneshwar, who has been active for the last 40 years in the Congress, after taking into view many BC voters, especially the considerable size of Mudiraj community which claims to be 40,000 strong. He is busy meeting the community leaders who are holding key positions in various organisations to attract their attention, doling out promises and using all possible means. A follower of former minister Kamatham Ram Reddy, he rose in the Congress party hierarchy in a phased manner to become Ranga Reddy district Zilla Parishad chairman and an MLC. Gnaneshwar has a large following in the two Telugu States as the president of the 93 BC Castes United Front. He has already begun what is being described as victory march. He appears confident of winning despite facing opponents like caretaker minister T Padma Rao Goud and Bandepalli Satish (BJP), after interacting with representatives of both booth and constituency-level committees, even as the d-day of December 7 is fast approaching.

During these tours, the PF candidate has been striving to attract voters by seeking to show what development he could achieve in Secunderabad if elected. At the same time, accompanied by wife Chandrakala during the tours, he is focused on the failure of TRS party and Padma Rao in honouring poll promises, as also adoption of the constituency by KCR which did not make much headway. While moving house to house along with his family members, Gnaneshwar’s promises include solving the pending problems facing the constituents which are lying with the TRS government. He told The Hans India that the people will teach a fitting lesson to the TRS government for failing to honour its past promises. Kasani promises to develop Secunderabad as an ideal constituency if elected. His confidence stems from the united efforts being made by the PF leaders belonging to Congress, TDP, TJS, CPI.
