YSRY Sridhar Reddy committed suicide in the wee hours of Saturday allegedly being unable to bear the harassment of an Additional Commissioner of Police (ACP). Sridhar Reddy, who went by the name of 'Uppal YSR' was a resident of Laxma Reddy colony in Uppal. Sridhar Reddy was accused in the attempt to murder case of Ramanthapur corporator which took place about two years back. According to the son of Sridhar Reddy, he noticed his father lying in another room and did not respond when he tried to call him. He was immediately rushed to a private hospital where he was declared brought dead. A ten page suicide note has been found in his house which alleged that he was committing suicide unable to bear extreme harassment by Malkajgiri ACP Radha Kishan Rao who was investigation officer (IO) into a murder case of Ramanthapur Corporator. Sridhar Reddy was the accused in the case. The note said that the ACP had threatened to kill him in an encounter if he does not pay Rs 10 lakh. Sridhar's case is now in trial stage. The note further said that Sridhar was ready to offer him Rs three lakh but the ACP who was not happy with the amount he had offered used to scold him. He also threatened to register more cases against him and open a rowdy-sheet. The note said that a person came to his residence on Friday and told him to be appear before ACP in his office. "I felt ashamed. I lost my pride in the locality. In order to put an end to the constant harassment by the ACP, I decided to end my life," Sridhar said in the last page of the note.
The family members of the YSRCP leader staged a dharna in front of Uppal police station along with the dead body demanding removal of the ACP from his services. They also demanded the police to register case under section 372 of IPC for causing death.
When The Hans India contacted the ACP over the phone, he dismissed the allegations. "Whatever I did was within the frame work of law," he said. He claimed that he had not harassed Sridhar Reddy. The grandson of Uppal MLA Bandari Raji Reddy, Sridhar was a big fan of Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy and was often referred to as the YSR of Uppal in political circles. He is also a staunch follower of former home minister Sabita Indra Reddy. After news spread about his death, several Congress leaders rushed to the Gandhi hospital. The case is being handled by CI Chandrakath.
