HPCL blast toll rises to 26

Visakhapatnam: The toll in the recent blast at the cooling tower in the Visakh refinery of Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL) mounted to 26, with an injured workman K Ramana (28), undergoing treatment at Seven Hills Hospital, here, succumbing to burn injuries on Tuesday.
A company release said here that the compensation of Rs 20 lakh to be paid to Ramana was handed over to Collector Arokya Raj on Tuesday. With this HPCL has handed over Rs 5 crore to the district administration towards payment of compensation.
Five injured workers are taking treatment in the hospital besides one each at New Care and Manipal Hospitals. The release said the condition of one of the seven injured undergoing treatment at the National Burns Centre, Mumbai, is critical. Higher-ups of HPCL are monitoring the overall situation. Shifting of debris from the mishap site was almost completed.
