Warangal: Remembering Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan on his 125th birth anniversary, educational institutions in the city and district celebrated Teacher’s Day on Thursday. Right from primary schools to the university level, students greeted their teachers by offering them flowers, greeting cards and small gifts. In some schools, students themselves donned the role of teachers and took classes.
At St Peter’s Edu School (Vidyanagar), Gurupujotsavam was celebrated by high school students dressed as their teachers took regular classes till afternoon. Students greeted the students by offering bouquets and sweets. Dr Radhakrishnan’s portrait was garlanded by the teachers.
School secretary N Narayana Reddy lauded the value system in olden days and said that occasions like this reinforce that teachers (gurus) are ultimate in shaping the life and future of the students. He said that Sarvepalli was the towering personality and was given highest civilian award of Bharath Rathna.
The management of Vivekananda High School led by Dr K Somi Reddy, Dr K Sadashiva Reddy, Gujjula Narsaiah, Manikya Rao and Thota Venkanna felicitated their school principal D Uma Rao and teachers on the occasion. Participating as the chief guest at Pingle Government Women’s College, retired KU professor Ganta Ramesh asked the students to develop knowledge. Principal Dr K Prameela presided while teachers Vasireddy Krishna Rao, Shakunatala, Samatha and others were present.
