Eluru: Municipal Commissioner G Naga Raju has warned those who dump waste on roads with a fine of Rs 500. Irked at the spread of garbage and waste material all over the road during his surprise check to the local Ghajvallivari Cheruvu vegetable and fish market, he said that a special cell to identify the defaulters would be created and strict action would taken against them. He told the traders to arrange separate dust bins at each shop and use them. Environment Engineer Rajakrishna, Sanitary inspectors Satyanaryana, Papa Rao, Balakrishna among others accompanied the Commissisoner. Tailors oppose VAT The District Revenue Officer, M Mohan Raju, has assured the tailors that he would represent their demand to abolish Value Added Tax imposed on the cloth to the Government. The tailors in the city observed one-day bandh on Friday against imposition of VAT. They went in a rally to the Collectorate and submitted a memorandum. The textile traders bandh for the past one week rendered them jobless, they said and urged the DRO to see that the government withdrew the VAT on cloth immediately. The local Tailors Association members participated in the programme. Consumer activist hurt Retired Deputy Collector and president of the Eluru Consumers Forum Koka Rama Rao was admitted to local hospital with an injury to his leg when he slipped.The 85-year-old consumer activist was attending a meeting on the occasion of World Consumers Rights Day at the District Collectorate here on Friday. Several consumers activists, District Supply Officer Lakshminarayana, Civil Supplies district manager Saleem Khan wished him a speedy recovery. NCC unit at Central school The principal of the Central School here, N Chandramouli, has announced here on Friday that the government has sanctioned an NCC unit for the school. The demand has been pending with the government for past several years. The government responded positively and sanctioned the unit under the jurisdiction of 19th Andhra Battalion, he said. He also informed that a proposal to establish a national level sports training centre in the city was sent to the government.
