Palakole (West Godavari): Tamil Nadu Governor K Rosaiah on Tuesday called upon the members of Arya Vysya community to serve the poor and needy. He participated as chief guest in the swearing-in ceremony of new executive body of the Arya Vysya West Godavari district unit held at Palakole. He administered the oath to the newly-elected members. Later, addressing the gathering, he made an appeal to the Arya Vysya community people to stay united. He stressed the need for the community to be flexible to changes that come with the modern age. It was not the business-oriented thought that helps growth in society. It was equally important to exhibit quality of service coupled with helping nature. They should extend support to poor and economically-backward students. They should give priority for pursuing higher education for their educational uplift, he said. Stating that he never went to jail during freedom-struggle, the Tamil Nadu Governor requested members of his community not to compare him with the likes of Mahatma Gandhi who led the struggle and Potti Sriramulu whose sacrifice led to creation of separate Andhra Pradesh on linguistic-basisboth the national and state leaders represent the community. Mr. Rosaiah said that he preferred to work as an ordinary activist of the Congress forever. It was God's grace that helped him get elevated to the higher positions of chief minister and governor. He said it was important for every human being to possess the quality of charity. Members of the community felicitated Rosaiah on the occasion
