Tell court she may tamper with evidence; next hearing on Monday

Hyderabad: The city police in a report submitted before the Secunderabad City Civil Court claimed that former Andhra Pradesh Minister Bhuma Akhila Priya and others involved in high-profile kidnap case in Hyderabad were high-profile political leaders and they can influence the victims and tamper with the evidence if they were not arrested. The next hearing was posted to Monday.

Praveen Rao, a former badminton player, was kidnapped along with his two brothers by a gang of around 10 men who pretended to be from the Income Tax department. It is learnt the entire issue was related to a land at Hafeezpet, where Praveen purchased 25 acres of land from Bhuma Nagi Reddy and it was mediated by AV Subba Reddy.

However, after the death of Nagi Reddy, his children allegedly started harassing Praveen in the land case. Akhila Priya was arrested from her residence on Wednesday for hatching a conspiracy of kidnapping the Katikaneni brothers. Bhargav Ram, another accused and husband of Akhila Priya, is still absconding. Special teams have been formed to nab him.

A senior officer working on the case noted, "Yes, it is true that the police have submitted the report for not granting bail to Akhila Priya as she may weaken the case by threatening the victims using her henchmen." On the allegations being leveled by the accused sister, Bhuma Mounika, he added, "All those are baseless allegations and there is nothing concrete in it. If she has anything to say, then she can appear in the court and record her submissions rather than garner attention in the media."
