Nalgonda: State Commissioner of Department of Civil Supplies Akun Sabharwal assured farmers of justice by purchasing soaked paddy due to untimely rains in erstwhile Nalgonda district.

On Thursday, he toured Nalgonda and Suryapet districts and conducted review meetings on the impact of untimely rains on paddy purchasing in the respective districts.

After having meetings at Nalgonda and Surypaet collectorate offices, he visited paddy procurement centres in both the districts and interacted with farmers after examining the soaked paddy.

He directed the officials concerned to make availability of tarpaulin covers at all procurement centres and advised to shift the paddy to rice mills after purchasing from farmers at regular intervals.

He enquired about the quantity of soaked paddy, purchasing, shifting, availability of gunny bags and other related matters pertaining to paddy procurement and farmers problems.

He advised to make availability of sufficient lorries for transportation and directed the officials to be in touch with RTA officials to tackle the paddy transport issues and inform the status to district Joint Collector and head office from time to time to get necessary help.

Stating that as per the weather report, there was a possibility of rains for next four days, he informed to make availability of required tarpaulin sheets to avoid losses to farmers.

He advised farmers to maintain recommended moisture percentage by drying the paddy properly before bringing to procurement centres to get Minimum Supporting Price.

He informed that in this season the target of procurement of paddy was 40 lakh metric tonnes and so far 1.44 lakh MT paddy was procured in the State, of them 1.34 lakh MT paddy was shifted to rice mills successfully.

Civil Supply officials and other district officials accompanied him during his tour to Nalgonda and Suryapet districts.
