Nagarkurnool: With Nivar Toofan threatening farming community, District Collector L Sharman Chavan has advised paddy farmers not to bring their produce to procurement centers for the next few days, as a precautionary measure to make sure their produce will not damage due to rains.

As the metrological department has cautioned that the Nivar Toofan may impact adversely Nagarkurnool district, the district administration has released directives to farmers to make sure they stock their produce with them safely until the Toofan recedes.

Agriculture department authorities were also instructed to advise farmers on the precautions to be taken and ensure that the farmers were given awareness about the impact of Toofan and its implications on the farming activities.

As large quantities of paddy stocks were already piled up at various procurement centers, the Collector had directed agriculture, marketing and civil supplies departments to make sure the stocks are cleared as early as possible from procurement centers and shifted to godowns. They were also told to cover the crops with tarpaulins.

Collector Sharman also directed officials of revenue, agriculture, panchayat raj, marketing and civil supplies departments to visit villages, paddy procurement centers and provide awareness to farmers on a constant basis and at the same time take necessary steps so that the farmers do not lose due to the rains.
