Readies 166 mobiles teams to lessen monsoon woes this year

Hyderabad: Ahead of monsoon, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has unveiled its strategy to spare the city of monsoon woes. It has readied a Monsoon Action Plan.

Mobile teams are being engaged at zonal and circle levels, according to the officials of. As many as 87 mini mobile monsoon teams, 79 mobile monsoon teams (equipped with DCMs and JCBs) would be on standby to meet any contingencies during the season.

The GHMC has already allocated Rs 24.53 crore as part of these measures.

GHMC Chief Engineer (maintenance) Mohd Ziauddin informed that keeping in past experiences in mind, the corporation already completed works at 127 out of the 157 identified water stagnation spots.

At the remaining 30 spots, 10 HP motors will be deployed to drain out water and clear stagnation during the period from June to October.

However, the official did not rule out the possibility of water stagnation and hurdles for traffic movement on roads, which resemble lakes during the rainy season.

A slight drizzle and roads are inundated, triggering traffic snarls. The mobile Teams would be tasked shift-wise for 24 hours.

Similarly, the spots where water stagnation is a regular phenomenon, 101 static labour teams would be available round-the-clock, Mohd Ziauddin informed.
