Hyderabad: Congress leaders feel that the migrant workers issue is the biggest crisis being faced by the country since independence and it is being handled poorly by both the central and the state governments.
The TPCC Covid-19 Task Force chargechargeorganised a video conference to discuss issues relating to migrant labourers and unorganised sector. Task Force chairman Marri Shashidhar Reddy, PCC president Uttam Kumar Reddy, CLP leader Bhatti Vikramarka, AICC in-charge Dr RC Khuntia, joint secretary Bose Raju, members of the core committee and INTUC president G Sanjiva Reddy participated.
The conference felt that the plight of migrant labourers was the result of the total insensitivity of the Centre and the States. There was no preparedness for the lockdown and consequences of it were now being felt across the country. The migrant labour crisis will have serious implications for the recovery of the country's economy post lockdown. It was decided at the conference to address the issues of migrant labourers from different aspects.
Relief operations should be taken up. They should be brought back to work in the state and a strategy should be formulated for their welfare, the leaders felt. The leaders felt that opening the liquor shops has defeated the very purpose of continuous lockdown. It was decided to appoint AICC spokesperson Sravan Dasoju as convener of the sub group of taskforce to coordinate the issue of migrant labourers of Telangana.
