Hyderabad: Police lauded for innovative initiatives for women safety

Habsiguda: The weeklong celebrations of International Women's Day by Rachakonda Police covering various aspects of safety and security of women concluded Sunday on a grand note where nearly 2,000 students and 500 volunteers participated in a rally was held from LB Nagar X Roads to Indoor Stadium, Saroornagar.

The rally was flagged of by LB Nagar MLA Sudheer Reddy & Rachakonda CP Mahesh Bhagwat. Home Minister Mohammad Mahmood Ali, Education Minister Sabitha Indra Reddy and DGP Mahender Reddy distributed bicycles, sponsored by Lions Club and represented by Dr Raghuveer, to the girl students of Hajipur.

During the programme in stadium, around 250 girl students of Zilla parishad schools trained by Dr Shiva under the Student Police Cadet programme of Rachakonda Police performed Kalaripayattu, ancient martial art form of Kerala, which received an outstanding response.

A short film by Hyma Reddy depicting the efforts of Rachakonda Police in protecting the women through various awareness sessions, preventive measures and strict police action through scientific investigations ensuring convictions was released. Speaking on the occasion, Mahmood Ali, stated that the top priority of the state government was women safety. She Teams was a novel concept working wonders in Telangana and was being emulated by all other states, he stated, adding that Telangana stands first in the country in safety and security of women. Appreciating Rachakonda police for securing conviction in Hajipur cases, Sabitha said that the State government initiated several programmes for safety. She stressed on women learning martial arts. Mahender Reddy stated that Telangana She Teams had gained confidence of the women through many programmes conducted by police.

Rachakonda CP Mahesh Bhagwat wished to see the day when women could walk fearless during midnight, as dreamt by Mahatma Gandhi. He stated that Rachakonda She Teams prevented pre-natal sex determination tests, child marriages and eve teasing. Further, he said 400 Margadarshaks under volunteer programme of Rachakonda Security Council, were conducting various programs. On the occasion, several women officers and others associated with Rachakonda Police were felicitated. Mahesh Bhagwat was felicitated by the dignitaries for his commendable work in women safety.
