Hyderabad: Will the striking employees of TSRTC join duty by Tuesday? This is the big question as the response has been lukewarm. It may be mentioned here that the State government had fixed November 5 as the deadline for the employees to join duties if they want to save their jobs.

The RTC JAC which met here on Monday demanded the government to call the unions for talks first. They said this could be followed by the unions agreeing to drop some demands and ask the employees to join the duty.

According to reports, only a handful of workers responded to the call given by the chief minister and gave letters willing to join duties.

The workers, who reported for duties on Monday includes conductors S Srinivas, Yadaiah (Midhani depot), MA Khadir (Metpally), B Suresh Kumar (Uppal), M Anjaneyulu (Vikarabad), P Krishnamurthy (Medak) and K Narsimhulu (Siddipet).

The drivers include A Raghupati (Hanumkonda), Ghouse Pasha (Karimnagar 1), S Noor Mohammad (Rajendranagar) and P Mallesham (Siddipet). Other workers include mechanical foreman/assistant engineer M Sandhya Rani (Korutla), M Ramesh (Narayankhed) and M Santosh Goud (Siddipet).

However, some of the workers, who reported to duties on Sunday returned to strike on Monday. Warangal 2 depot assistant manager B Veeranna said that he was not joining duties and would continue to strike until the demands are met. Sattupally depot driver Md Mubeen also said that he was also joining the strike again.

Meanwhile, the TSRTC JAC has decided to continue the strike and has demanded Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao to call them for talks. RTC JAC convener Ashwathama Reddy said the issues will be resolved if there are talks.

In the meantime, the employees have decided to form human chains at depots on Tuesday, protest with family members on November 6, stir by people's organisations on November 7 and the next day on November 8 there will be Chalo Tank Bund. The JAC leaders would be meeting Government Employees Unions and political parties on Tuesday to thank them for their support.

Co-convener K Raji Reddy said the strike was continuing for the last 31 days even after so many threats, which was never witnessed in the history of RTC. If chief minister calls workers for talks then they will not need political parties, he said.
