As many as 16 gates of Sri Ram Sagar Project (SRSP) were lifted on Monday morning, releasing 75,000 cusecs of water into Godavari river.
Nizamabad: As many as 16 gates of Sri Ram Sagar Project (SRSP) were lifted on Monday morning, releasing 75,000 cusecs of water into Godavari river. After three years, the reservoir has reached its Full Reservoir Level (FRL) of 1091 feet and full capacity of 90 TMC.
Farmers in the area are delighted with the sudden influx of water at the moment when the survival of SRSP is in question with the construction of Babli project.
Before opening the SRSP gates, the authorities had alerted the farmers of Mendora, Eragatla Gumilara, Lakmachandra, Mamada and Khanapur mandals. It was suggested to remove electric motors supplying water in Godavari river. Cattle keepers were strictly told not to enter the river and fish hunting was banned.
