Khammam: In a serious case of breach of patient privacy, a head nurse working at the Khammam Government hospital has shared a video of woman delivering her baby on social media.

A mother giving birth to a baby is an important and a private matter. Most of the women don't even like their husbands to be present in the delivery room during their labour. However, a head nurse from Khammam government hospital breached that privacy by sharing the video of a woman giving birth online. The alleged head nurse has been working in the hospital for the last 30 years and was completely aware of her act.

Meanwhile, members of the Human Rights Commission and women organisations took the incident very seriously and alleged that the nurse not only breached the patient's privacy, but also broke a mother's trust in the health system. These kind of incidents could seriously lead to patients distancing themselves from government hospitals, they said.

When questioned about the incident, the hospital superintendent Banothu Venkateswarlu called the act remorseful and added that an investigation has been initiated to find people behind it, and promised to take strict action against the perpetrators. He, however, added it was a norm to take videos for educational purposes by medical professionals, but they should not be shared publicly and that too on social media.

A complaint has already been registered in the local police station and information regarding others involved in the video is yet to be known.
