Uber and Ola taxi drivers in Telangana are planning to go on strike in support of their demands related to app-based transport and food delivery services such as Blinkit and Zepto. A state-wide shutdown has been called for July 22. On Tuesday (July 21), members of the Telangana App-Based Drivers' Forum met in the CITU office at Musheerabad; after a detailed discussion on their complaints, they decided to conduct a strike in Telangana on July 22.
Speaking on the occasion, Shaik Salauddin, founding president of the Telangana Gig and Platform Workers Union, apologized to all concerned about the trouble that would be caused due to the strike. He mentioned that the strike had been planned due to the various complaints of gig workers which had not been attended to till now.
He was highly disappointed with the government as it did nothing for the plight of gig workers. He pointed out the heavy burden of expenses such as fuel costs, maintenance of vehicles, insurance etc. He said that both the central and state governments should take immediate action for minimum base fare for transport services.
