Hyderabad: The trade unions in the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation have demanded government to provide a package of Rs 50,000 crore from the Centre's package of Rs 20 lakh crore.

TSRTC Employees Union said that in wake of the huge losses being faced by the Corporation during the lockdown period the government should at least provide Rs 50,000 crore package to public sector, which has taken a beating ever since the lockdown was announced. EU general secretary K Raji Reddy said that Centre has come up with a package of Rs 20 lakh crore the government should provide assistance to all the public transport organisations in the country with at least Rs 50,000 crore as per the size of the organisation.

The EU leader said that already the public transport organisations were facing losses by not operating buses and now they would be further put to loss because of the social distancing norms as it would be difficult to earn profits with 50 per cent occupancy ratio. Though the sector was in losses, neither the State nor the Central government decreased excise duty on diesel and MV tax. The EU leader said that the government should provide financial assistance to the state run RTC to sustain and overcome the losses.
