Yadadri-Bhongir/Nalgonda: Wresting their strongholds from the Telangana Rashtra Samithi, the Congress leaders Komatireddy Venkat Reddy and N Uttam Kumar Reddy were successful in stopping the TRS juggernaut in erstwhile Nalgonda district by winning the Bhongir and Nalgonda Lok Sabha seats respectively.
In Bhongir, the Congress senior leader, Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, won the election with a majority of 5,219 votes against sitting MP and TRS party candidate Boora Narsaiah Goud. Though Komatireddy lost the Nalgonda Assembly seat in the elections held last December to TRS candidate Bhupal Reddy by a margin of 25,000 votes, he was named the party's Bhongir Lok Sabha candidate.
Realising the party's aspirations, Komatireddy walked towards victory on Thursday, which is also his birthday.
While Komatireddy secured 5,32,031 votes, his rival Boora Narsaiah Goud managed to get 5,27,235 votes.
Speaking to media along with his brother and Munugodu MLA Komatireddy Rajgopal Reddy, Komatireddy senior informed that he would become the voice of people of Bhongir region and assured to fulfill all poll promises in a phase-wise manner. He thanked party leaders, cadre, supporters and people who extended their support for his victory from Bhongir.
In Nalgonda, Congress party retained the seat with Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee chief N Uttam Kumar Reddy winning the seat against his rival TRS candidate Vemireddy Narsimha Reddy with a majority of 25,682 votes.
He won as an MLA from Huzurnagar constituency in the Assembly elections held last December. Following the instructions of party high command, he contested as party MP candidate from Nalgonda. While Uttam secured 5,26,058 votes, his rival TRS candidate Vemireddy Narsimha Reddy got 5,00,346 votes.
In 2014, Congress party candidate Gutha Sukender Reddy won the Nalgonda MP seat with a record majority of 1.92 lakh and shifted his loyalties to TRS later.
Congress high command to put the Nalgonda seat in its kitty once again fielded Uttam.
Except Nalgonda Assembly segment, Uttam Kumar Reddy got more votes than TRS candidate from Huzurnagar, Kodad, Miryalaguda, Suryapet, Devarakonda and Nagarjunasagar constituencies.
Speaking to media, Uttam said MP results are a slap on the face of ruling TRS. He assured to fulfill all his promises made during electioneering. He thanked party leaders, cadre, supporters and people of Nalgonda MP jurisdiction over their overwhelming support.
