Hyderabad: Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao has said that he will not compromise on Telangana rights of utilisation of water of Krishna and Godavari Rivers.

Following the fresh bout of political bitterness between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh triggered on the issue of Pothirrddypadu and Rayalaseema Lift irrigation Projects taken up by the neighbouring State, the Chief Minister's statement assumes political significance.

Speaking to newsmen at Pragati Bhavan, he said that the government has prepared its own plans for the utilisation of water from the two rivers. An official committee was already constituted to study the use of Godavari water. The Andhra Pradesh has the right to use its own share of water. He stood by his earlier statement that the backward Rayalaseema region should be prosperous by utilizing Krishna water but within the allocation of assured waters.

The Chief Minister reiterated that the State will maintain cordial relations with all neighbouring States and resolve the issues encountered by Telangana in the utilisation of water amicably.
