Visakhapatnam: Gandhian Scholar and GITAM Deemed-to-be University Chancellor Prof K Ramakrishna Rao here on Wednesday said the principles of Mahatma Gandhi remain as essential as they were in his time and offer solutions to several problems the world is facing.

While addressing the gathering, Prof Ramakrishna Rao observed that the principle of ahimsa is very relevant in today's world which is experiencing violence in the form of terrorism and other conflicts. He said ahimsa constitutes the core value of Indian civilisation and it has played a vital role in the evolution of Indian culture and philosophy.

GITAM President M Sribhrath said Mahatma Gandhi remains a shining beacon of hope for millions of people across the world who seeks a life of equality, dignity, inclusion and empowerment. He recalled that Gandhi strived to lead the country to not just political independence, but to a better India and a society free of caste, religious, economic and even gender prejudices.

GITAM Vice-Chancellor Prof K Sivaramakrishna said Gandhi believed that adherence to his thoughts and execution of his proposals would create a new society free from the life-destroying ugliness of violence, exploitation, poverty, unemployment, and ecological imbalance. Gandhi Smriti Former Director Dr Savitha Singh also spoke.
