The appointment of new Vice-Chancellors (VCs) for universities in Andhra Pradesh has been completed.

The appointment of new Vice-Chancellors (VCs) for universities in Andhra Pradesh has been completed. Higher Education Special Chief Secretary Satish Chandra has issued orders appointing the new Vice-Chancellors to five universities in the state after Governor Biswabhushan Harichandan gave the green signal. The orders said the appointments would be subjected to the final judgment of the High Court on a petition filed by University of Hyderabad Professor AC Narayana alleging that the varsities law was amended in violation of UGC rules. One of the newly appointed VCs is SC and the other is BC, while the other three belong to the OC community.

As per the notification, PVGD Prasad Reddy Senior Professor at Visakha Andhra University is appointed as Vice-Chancellor, professor Thummala Ramakrishna Reddy appointed as Dravida University vice-chancellor, retired professor K Rama Krishna Reddy as Anantapur Srikrishna Devaraya University, Professor K Raja Reddy as Tirupati Sri Venkateswara University Vice-Chancellor, Professor A. Anand Rao has been appointed as the Vice-Chancellor of Rayalaseema University, Kurnool respectively. However, Acharya Nagarjuna University did not get the green signal for the appointment of Vice-Chancellor.

It was rumoured that the file related to the appointment of Vice-chancellor was kept by the governor for a long time and was discussed with legal experts before giving the green signal. The governor has consulted legal experts in the wake of University of Hyderabad Professor AC Narayana PIL said that the amendment to the varsities law in AP was against the UGC rules.
