The State Election Commission (SEC) has directed officials to begin counting votes for the MPTC and ZPTC elections at 8am on Saturday and complete the process by 8pm.

On Friday, the SEC reviewed counting arrangements across the districts. Officials said they expected the Parishad election count to finish within the deadline, despite delays to municipal election counting caused by rain. The SEC has instructed Collectors and District Election Officers to declare the results within 12 hours of counting starting.

Postal ballots will be counted first, followed by votes cast at polling stations. Pink ballot papers for MPTC elections will be separated from white papers for ZPTC elections.

Ballot papers from polling stations in each MPTC constituency will be gathered and made into bundles of 25 without being unfolded. ZPTC papers will also be bundled in sets of 25, then placed in a drum at the Returning Officer’s table and mixed.

Half of the counting tables will be assigned to ZPTC votes and half to MPTC votes. Each table will receive 1,000 ballot papers per round, arranged in 40 bundles of 25.

Once counting for an MPTC constituency is complete, the Returning Officer must review and approve the result before counting begins for the next constituency. ZPTC votes will be counted and results declared using the same procedure.
