Tirupati: Autorickshaw drivers in the pilgrim city on Friday staged a dharna under the banner of Tirupati Auto Workers Union affiliated to AITUC, here before the traffic police station, demanding to stop collection of e-challan by police.

Auto Workers Union president Siva said that imposing of e-challan by traffic police on auto drivers turned unbearable hitting their livelihood.

Despite repeated representations, the traffic police did not stop indiscriminate collection of e-challan fleecing auto drivers forcing them take to streets. Authorities permitting more and more autos in the city but not providing parking lots or places for autos forcing the drivers to park their vehicles on roadsides.

But the traffic and home guards filming the autos on the roadsides, forwarding them to control room for generating e-challans forcing the auto drivers daily pay huge amount as fine for no fault of them but the failure of authorities providing auto stands in the city.

Siva said that the civic and police authorities should jointly inspect the places to identify suitable parking places for autos. Later, a memorandum was submitted on the demands of auto drivers.
