Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh Governor Biswa Bhusan Harichandan participated as chief guest at the Armed Forces Flag Day celebrations held at Durbar Hall in Raj Bhavan on Monday.

Speaking on the occasion, Governor Harichandan said the Indian Armed Forces hold a special place in the hearts of citizens and the Armed Forces Flag Day observed on December 7 every year was a special occasion to salute the armed forces personnel for their valour, devotion to duty and professionalism of the highest order against the external forces and the internal threats faced by the country.

The Governor said the people of the country were not only grateful to the armed force personnel for their sacrifices but also owe a debt of gratitude to them and celebration of the Flag Day was a reminder about the sacrifices made by our brave officers and men of the armed forces in the defence of our motherland. The occasion offers an ideal opportunity to express our solidarity with the country's armed forces personnel through liberal contribution to the Flag Day Fund, said the Governor.

The Governor felicitated Veer Nari Sammingi Rohini, wife of Sepoy late Sammingi Tulasi Ram of Visakhapatnam district, who achieved martyrdom on January 12 this year, with a head injury suffered by him while protecting the country's borders at Yangtse Sector on the Line of Actual Control in Arunachal Pradesh.

He appreciated the efforts of Kurnool District Collector G Veerapandian, Zilla Sainik Welfare Officer of Kurnool G Rachaiah, West Godavari District Collector Mutyala Raju Revu, KVS Prasada Rao, Zilla Sainik Welfare Officer, West Godavari and East Godavari District Collector D Muralidhar Reddy, K Manorama, Zilla Sainik Welfare Officer of East Godavari for securing first, second and third positions respectively, for maximum collection of donations from public for the Armed Forces Flag Day Fund for the year 2019 and presented mementoes to their representatives on the occasion.

Special Secretary for Home G Vijay Kumar, Director of Sainik Welfare Md Ahsan Reza, officers of Raj Bhavan attended the programme.
