Tirupati: District Collector Dr N Bharat Gupta has made it clear that people have ignored hand hygiene and are not following physical distance after lockdown was lifted which has been resulting in huge spurt of Covid-19 positive cases. Saying that the cases were around 200 only in the beginning of June have crossed 1,600 by July 1. Going by this trend, the cases may reach somewhere between 3,000 to 6,000 by this month end, he warned.

Addressing a review meeting held at RDO office in Tirupati on Thursday, the Collector has said that Sri Padmavati Covid care centre has reached more than half of its total capacity of 800 beds. He directed the officials to start admitting asymptomatic patients and those having mild symptoms at TTDs Srinivasam Covid care centre.

Municipal Corporation Deputy Commissioner Chandramouleeswara Reddy will be the nodal officer for Srinivasam where the allotment of duties to doctors and other staff has been completed. Patients with Covid positive coming from Municipal areas will be admitted at Srinivasam.

Earlier, speaking to the media, the Collector said that about 5,000 samples are awaiting test results and steps have been taken to reduce the waiting numbers.

Joint Collector – Development V Veerabrahmam, RDO V Kanaka Narasa Reddy and Corporation Dy Commissioner Chandramouleeswar Reddy were present.
