Kakinada: East Godavari district in-charge minister Alla Srinivas (alias Nani) said that a target of 13.88 MT of paddy fixed for the present kharif season in the district. Addressing the 73rd Independence Day celebrations here at Police parade grounds on Thursday, the Minister said that efforts are being made for better production in agriculture and allied sectors despite floods damaged crops.

He said Rs 1,065 crore crop loans have been sanctioned for this season and farmers were provided with 9,934 quintals of seeds and 89,000 MT of fertilizers have been kept ready for distribution. The minister also said that under the YSR Rythu Bharosa, farmers will be provided investment subsidy to the tune of Rs 12,500 from October onwards.

Speaking on village secretariat system in the district, the Minister said 1,271 village secretariats will be established by October 2 in the district and 24,578 village volunteers were already appointed and efforts have been made to recruit another 13,981 village secretariat staff in the district.

On the distribution of pensions, the minister said that 5,81,033 pensioners are being paid Rs 140 crore every month under the YSR Pension Scheme. Nani also said that an action plan was prepared in the district for provision of infrastructure facilities in the welfare hostels with Rs 14 crore.

The process of identification of government and other lands would be carried in the district for provision of house sites to homeless poor. Earlier, the minister on his arrival received guard of honour from the contingent of police, NCC and scouts and guides. The tableaus of various departments displayed the government programmes. Cultural programmes by schoolchildren on national integration received good response from audience.

The minister handed over meritorious certificates to officers and staff for rendering dedicated services. Collector D Muralidhar Reddy, SP Adman Nayeem Asmi, Mayor Sunkara Pavan, MP Vanga Geeta, MLC I V Rao and MLA D Chandrasekhar Reddy were present.
