Of course, he was born in this town long back, he moved to Visakhapatnam with his parents and spent most of the time in Hyderabad and Chennai due to his career requirements. But Gollapudi never skipped a programme organised here whether a cultural one or a literary related or book release or something else.

He has been regularly participating in various programmes in the town. Vizianagaram is a city of culture and frequently various cultural organisations, art lovers conduct such kind of programmes here and invite the versatile personalities like Gollapudi, Tanikella Bharani and others.

Previously, he participated in the Centenary celebrations of Maharaja Music College and spoke on various cultural related topics. Even, he attended Gurajada Birth Anniversary programme and witnessed the Kanyasulkam, Puttadibomma Poornamma playlet also.

He is used to quote various dialogues from Kanyasulkam written by noted social reformer Gurajada Apparao and he reminds the characters in that playlet. He recollects the dialogues of Gireesam and others. The local literary lovers shocked to hear the news of demise of this veteran actor-cum-writer.

Dr M Harijawahatlal, who shared a dais with Gollapudi Maruthi Rao during Maharaja Music College Centenary celebrations has recollected that the incident and stated that Gollapudi is a walking encyclopedia and he is legendary writer, moreover he is a great humanitarian. "It was a great memory for me to spend some time with him. Its a great loss for Telugu literary world and film industry too," he said.
