Kakinada: Mc Lauren High School here has set a high standard of excellence in the instruction of English among all the schools in the twin Godavari districts.

Right from the British period (1930s), children of the rich as well as the poor thronged to the school for receiving education. In fact it was not only well known for its qualitative education, but also for spreading love through the scriptural teaching.

The teachers treated both Hindus and Christians alike. The classic example is that school comprised at least 35 percent of Brahmins among faculty.

The students of those times were trained not only in writing skills but even in acquiring oratorical skills through 'Debating Society' which turned every participant into an extraordinary speaker.

A notable, exemplary teacher of Mclaurin High School was P Ebinezer who exercised a profound influence on his students. He could transform a dull student into a highly motivated, brilliant student of English.

N Vinayaka Rao, an ONGC officer being as student of Ebinezer said the teachers held magnetic sway over their students and won their affection owing to their pedagogical competence particularly in English.

N Ramam, a retired lecturer in Chemistry of PR College, Kakinada said that students acquired proficiency in V Form and SSLC. By the time they joined (old) Intermediate, they could speak English fluently with ease and confidence.

Dr NKV Rao, a retired principal, an ardent student of Ebinezer said that no student ever felt tedium or monotony during his grammar class for it became Glamour class often punctuated by humour and enlivening banter.

Dr N Rama Krishna, USA, a student of Ebinezer said that he used to instruct and engage our students in rapt attention with his edifying anecdotes like the Prodigal Son.

He was soft, sonorous, straight and suave, in his department. He passed away on 6 June 1994. All his students remember his classes with a nostalgic yearning and cherish long lingering memories with a sense of gratitude and abiding affection.

Daisy Georgiana, daughter of James Albert Giddie said that his father James Albert studied in Mc Lauren High School in Kakinada.

She said that her father explained about Ebinezer in her childhood days. She said that Ebinezer Master also a great Biblical teacher with the gift of sustaining narrative power.
