Kurnool: Due to non-availability of doctors and nurses at primary health centre, a pregnant woman suffered problems for about an hour and later delivered with the help of local nurse and the incident occurred at Hussaina Puram Primary Health Centre in Orvakal mandal on Saturday.

According to information one Suhasini resident of Rudravaram village in Bethamcherla mandal came to Hussaina Puram Primary Health Centre for delivery. But there were no medical staff, doctors or nurses at the PHC and it was locked. Unable to bear labour pains she was kept on a table that was kept for the watchman to take rest.

An hour has passed but none turned up to the PHC. The watchman came to the PHC and was shocked on seeing the pregnant woman suffering with labour pains. With the unbearable pains the baby's head has come out of her womb. The watchman rushed into the village and returned back with a nurse and before that Suhasini delivered a baby.

Both mother and the baby were safe with the timely help of a village nurse. The parents of Suhasini and the local people expressed their anguish over the medical staff of PHC. They alleged that neither the doctor nor nurses used to come to the PHC. Almost all the time they bunk duties and draw salaries. The watchman is the caretaker of the PHC, alleged the residents.

The District Medical and Health Officer (DMHO), Dr Rama Giddaiah speaking to The Hans India, denied the allegations. He said the pregnant woman was taken care by the nurse with which she delivered a baby. But the DMHO has confessed about staff crunch.
