Mahatma Gandhi Cancer Hospital and Research Institute (MGCHRI) recently introduced new centre for advanced hematology and hemato-oncology (bone marrow transplant) unit which is the first of its kind unit for bone marrow transplant in the state of Andhra Pradesh.

Visakhapatnam: Mahatma Gandhi Cancer Hospital and Research Institute (MGCHRI) recently introduced new centre for advanced hematology and hemato-oncology (bone marrow transplant) unit which is the first of its kind unit for bone marrow transplant in the state of Andhra Pradesh.

The hospital is equipped to provide both autologous and allogenic stem cell transplantation. BMT procedures can treat cancerous conditions such as leukemia, myeloma, lymphoma and non-cancerous conditions.

Meanwhile, the hospital has achieved another milestone by successfully performing the first Allogenic Hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, a rare procedure.

It was initiated by B Chandrasekhar and his team in a highly sophisticated bone marrow transplant unit which has HEPA filtered and positive pressure ventilated rooms. Hospital Managing Director Murali Krishna Voonna among others were at the meet.
