Guntur: AP Mahila Commission Chairperson Vasireddy Padma here on Thursday found fault with Leader of Opposition in the State Assembly N Chandrababu Naidu's remarks against prohibition. She criticised Naidu as he said if the YSRCP government went ahead with its plan, illicit liquor may cause serious consequences.
Addressing a press conference here, Padma said that Article 47 of the Constitution mandated the State government to impose prohibition. She wondered why the former Chief Minister was trying to belittle the Constitution.
She said not less than 6 per cent of deaths and 40 per cent of accidents were due to consumption of alcohol. Apart from it, the alcohol had kept the families belonging to SC, ST, BC, OBC and EBC in poverty. Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy had taken a bold decision to impose prohibition in phases, she said.
