Kurnool: District collector G Veera Pandiyan has directed the officials concerned to be alert round-the-clock to tackle the Nivar cyclone.

The collector accompanied with Superintendent of Police Dr Fakkeerappa Kaginelli and Nandyal Sub-Collector Kalpana Kumari visited Nandyal revenue division and reviewed the situation on Thursday.

Pandiyan said due to the cyclone, heavy rains are likely to lash the district on Thursday and Friday. The trio also visited Sirivella and Rudravaram mandals.

The collector while inspecting the Nandyal Revenue division said that the areas alongside of Kundu River will drastically affect due to inundation of the floodwaters. He ordered the officials to shift the residents in low-lying areas to relief camps. The officials of all departments were directed to be available at the control rooms. The officials should ensure that no human, property, crop and livestock loss take place.

Veera Pandiyan said that the ponds, lakes and streams were full of 80 per cent of water. If the rains lash then, there was every chance of overflowing water crossing the danger mark levels. Under any circumstances, none of the residents and villagers should be allowed to cross the lakes, rivers and streams. He ordered the police department to deploy additional police personnel at the lakes, streams and rivers during night times. The officials of medical department were ordered to be ready with ambulances, medicines and other medical equipment so that they can attend immediately in case of any emergency.

The officials of power supply department are told to ensure uninterrupted power supply. They should immediately address the power problems. The officials of roads and buildings are told to clear off the road disruptions that cause due to falling of trees on the roads. Municipal department is ordered to take care of sanitation at the villages and other areas. The officials of irrigation department are told to keep stock of sandbags so that they can immediately strengthen the river bunds.
