Kakinada: As part of community policing in agency areas of Rampachodavaram, the East Godavari police taken up a new initiative 'Girijana Mitra' to establish a strong bond between the tribal youth and the police.

As part of friendly policing and to distance the tribal youth from Maoist influence, the East Godavari police administration on Saturday conducted a mega volleyball tournament for the Tribals under 'Girijana Mithra' programme at Gurtedu of Y Ramavaram mandal, the interior forest area in the Agency areas.

Police sources said that the mega event has received tremendous response with tribal youth from 60 villages. The youth formed into 90 teams and participated in the tournament with great enthusiasm. The police department has provided food and extended other facilities for the players and the visitors totaling around 1,500.

Superintendent of Police Adnan Nayeem Asmi and OSD Arif Hafiz personally attended the event and presented cash awards to the winning teams. The Superintendent of Police greeted Circle Inspector Maredumilli, Sub-Inspector of Police Gurthedu and his staff for organising such a successful event.

He said East Godavari police were committed to organising more such events for the youth in the agency areas in the near future with focus on employment, health and skill development and also to wean them away from any forms of Left wing extremist ideology.
