Eluru: Left parties staged protest demonstrations at different places in West Godavari district on Tuesday, demanding that the Centre rollback the hiked prices of petrol and diesel.

In Eluru, the CPM activists burnt an effigy of the Central government to register its protest over the hike in petrol prices. The activists blocked road at Mini Bypass Road and Hanuman Nagar Bridge as part of the agitation.

Addressing the gathering, the party city unit secretary P Kishore said that the hike in petrol and diesel prices was inhuman as people of the country have been suffering financially due to Covid-19 lockdown for three months. The diesel price surpassing petrol was highly condemnable as it would have cascading effect on the price of essential commodities, he lamented.

In Pedapadu, activists of CPI and CPM dragged with ropes an auto to register their anger over government hiking prices of diesel and petrol. Leaders who spoke on the occasion, came down heavily on Modi government for ignoring the people's welfare and taking anti-people decisions.
