Rajamahendravaram: Director general of police (DGP) Damodar Goutam Sawang said that Chief Minister Y S Jaganmohan Reddy would inaugurate Disha police station and launch app in the city on February 7, which is first-of-its-kind in the state as well as in the country.

Speaking to reporters here on Wednesday, the DGP said the state government would declare 2020 as Year of Women Protection. The government would be starting 18 Disha police stations, of which five would be cities and the remaining in other areas.

The five Disha police stations will come up at Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, Tirupati, Rajamahendravaram and Guntur, he said. Required staff will be appointed in the police stations along with public prosecutors in the respective courts.

Investigation will be completed in one week, trial in two weeks and punishment is awarded to the accused within 21 days as per the Act, Sawang said. "The government is very much particular to provide full protection to women and the Chief Minister is firm on implementing Disha Act effectively," he added.

He said the Chief Minister would address officials of 1,100 police stations through video conference after opening the Disha police station.

Earler, the DGP inspected the newly-constructed Disha police station and arrangements at NTR convention centre at Adikavi Nannaya University.

District SP Dr Shemushi Bajpayee, DSPs Santosh, Ravi Kumar, Srinivas Reddy and others accompanied the DGP. He also discussed the arrangements for the Chief Minister's programme with university vice-chancelllor Prof Mokka Jaganandha Rao.
