Stone laid for curry leaf processing unit

Narasaraopet: MP Lavu Sri Krishnadevarayalu along with MLA Prathipati Pulla Rao laid foundation stone for the establishment of a curry leaf processing unit at Kattubadivaripalem village in Chilakaluripet mandal of Palnadu district on Tuesday.

Speaking on this occasion, he explained that instead of selling curry leaves directly at low prices, farmers could add value by processing them into powders and spices, just as milk is converted into curd and other value-added products, thereby earning five to six times more revenue. He said that farmers in Kattubadivaripalem and surrounding areas are cultivating curry leaves on hundreds of acres and that the processing plant has been brought in to provide them with greater economic support. He called upon women to run the plant with a sense of ownership, treating it as “our own industry” and work together to make it profitable.

He suggested that the local products could also be marketed under the “Swayam” brand and promoted on a wider scale, just as Araku Coffee which achieved international recognition through effective branding.
