Tirupati: TDP flayed the government for the cancellation of thousands of pensions in Tirupati, on Monday. The party staged a dharna at Municipal Corporation Office and raised slogans against the government. The leaders led by former MLA M Sugunamma have submitted a memorandum to the Municipal Commissioner PS Girisha.

Party leaders, RC Muni Krishna, P Sridhar Varma, Bl Sanjay, D Bhaskar Yadav, Gunasekhar Naidu, Vijaya Lakshmi and others participated in the protest in which aged people, physically challenged persons and widows whose names were deleted from the new list of beneficiaries were also present.

Speaking on the occasion, Sugunamma said that nearly 3,500 pensions have been cancelled in Tirupati Municipal Corporation limits only. With this, they have become helpless in getting their livelihood. The government has purposefully deleted eligible persons names also by showing one reason or the other. They have demanded to restore the pensions immediately, failing which the agitation will be intensified, she said.

Later, in the evening, TDP district general secretary G Narasimha Yadav addressed the media at Tirupati Press Club and reiterated the same demand. He said that the party will fight for the needy till their pensions are restored.
