Yerragondapalem: A transport lorry bringing back the sweet lime workers from Miryalaguda to Yerragondapalem overturned at Mettuguda Thanda near Yerragondapalem on the morning of Wednesday. Two people in the lorry have died on the spot while 15 others are severely injured and shifted to Guntur for better treatment.

According to Peru Mukkanti, SI of Yerragondapalem, about 45 people from the village went to works in sweet lime orchards in Miryalaguda in Nalgonda district of Telangana. After the plucking works are complete, they boarded an empty transport lorry to Yerragondapalem on Tuesday night. Just a few kilometres before they reach their home, the lorry driver observed a corpse of the buffalo on the road at the check post near Mettuguda Thanda and tried to avoid passing over it but lost control of the vehicle. The lorry overturned into the fields beside the road killing two people in it and injuring about 30 other passengers.

The police identified the deceased as Gayam Subbulu, aged 50 years and Veerla Lingaiah, aged 55 years and shifted the severely injured 15 workers to hospitals in Narasarao Pet and Guntur through ambulances. The others who received minor injuries are shifted to the social health centre in Yerragondapalem and are being offered treatment. The police said that they have registered a case for using the transport vehicle for carrying passengers and other relative sections and are investigating the reasons behind the accident.
