Vijayawada: Muslims Joint Action committee, the association of various Muslim organisations in Vijayawada, has decided not to host Ramzan mass prayers at the Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation stadium on the festival to be celebrated either on May 25 or May 26 due to Covid-19 lockdown. JAC convener Shaik Muneer Ahmed, in a press release on Friday, said the JAC in association with other organisations every year will conduct the mass prayers at the Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation stadium and thousands of Muslims attend the event. He said this year, the JAC cancelled the mass prayers at the IGMC stadium due to Covid-19 lockdown. He said some Muslim leaders, priests and others too are suggesting for prayers at homes instead of attending prayers in mosques, Eedgah and other public places.

He recalled that the Government has banned the religious gatherings till the lockdown 4.0 was completed. Muneer Ahmed appealed to the fraternity to help the poor Muslims, who have lost livelihood due to Covid-19 lockdown. The JAC leader appealed to the Muslims to use masks and maintain physical distance to check the spread of virus and co-operate with the government for implementation of lockdown.
