Visakhapatnam: Vigilance Awareness Week (VAW) is observed across the city from October 28 to November 2, with the theme 'Integrity - a way of life.' The motto behind the week is to identify and implement effective preventive measures to fight corruption and to enhance transparency and accountability in functioning.

As part of VAW, Divisional Railway Manager Chetan Kumar Srivastava administered the integrity pledge to all the officers and staff at DRM Office on Monday and displayed banners and posters at railway station to create awareness and propagate the message on vigilance awareness.

And at various units, pamphlets were distributed to the passengers. Audio jingles on vigilance awareness were played at the station. Apart from this, several activities like seminars, essay writing, debate and drawing competitions will be scheduled during this VAW.

Visakhapatnam Port Trust (VPT) and Dredging Corporation of India Limited (DCIL) jointly observed VAW on Monday.

VPT Deputy Chairman P L Haranadh and DCIL Managing Director Rajesh Tripathi administered the integrity pledge.

Participating as chief guest, CBI SP P Vimaladitya stressed on the importance of effective vigilance.

VPT Chief Vigilance Officer Pradeep stated that preventive vigilance is the best form of vigilance and emphasised that the organisations should identify the grey areas and eradicate those with help of technology.

DCIL Managing Director Rajesh Tripathi elaborated on need of preventive vigilance.

As part of observance of VAW, Skill Development Institute, HPCL at Deendayalapuram, has administered integrity pledge. Deputy General Manager C V Narasimha Das said that VAW was observed every year with an endeavour to promote integrity, transparency and accountability in public life and raise public awareness. Several programmes like quiz, essay writing, slogan, elocution, debate competitions will be scheduled with unity walk on October 31. Around 500 trainees and associates participated in the programme.
