Visakhapatnam: World badminton champion P V Sindhu inaugurated the renovated Railway Indoor Sports Enclave (RISE) at the Railway Indoor Sports Complex of the East Coast Railway Sports Association, Waltair Division here on Saturday.

The enclave, popularly known as RISE, was earlier opened in 2016. It has facilities to play badminton, table tennis, karate and boxing. Several national camps and tournaments have been hosted by RISE including kabaddi and senior national weightlifting championship, among others.

At present, Waltair Division having its Sports hub at Waltair Railway Stadium comprises world class facilities like a swimming pool, football, tennis, basketball, weightlifting and a national standard cricket stadium where Ranji and CK Naidu tournaments were held recently. Divisional Railway Manager, Waltair Division, Chetan Kumar Shrivastava has taken the initiative to construct gymnasium, squash court and floodlit stadium for which works have already been commenced. As part of his objective, Waltair Sports complex will be developed into Centre of Excellence with the help of the team comprising sports officer Sakkeer Hussain and assistant sports officers Shiva Harsha and Anil Kumar.

After inaugurating the enclave, Sindhu played shuttle for a while. ADRM (Infra) Akshay Saxena and ADRM (Operations) P Ramachandra Rao accompanied the DRM for the inaugural of the renovated enclave.
